Portland septet AgesandAges sound like a bunch of singing hippies at first. They celebrate communal living, but it not all about love and happiness and refraining from hitting your neighbour, boss or pet. Sure, there's plenty of the Mama and the Papas, The Lovin' Spoonful, and even a bit of Syd Barrett in their tunes, but coming up with good harmonies never hurts. Their debut Alright You Restless is a smart collection of songs and not a nostalgia record as such.
Recorded quickly - the sessions took only eight days - Alright You Restless is an album with rich textures delivered in an offhand manner requiring a few spins to grow on the listener.
