Antony and the Johnsons: The Crying Light

Antony and the Johnsons were lauded with rave reviews for their 2005 album I Am A Bird Now. Singer Antony Hegarty defied gender with his "is it a guy, is it a girl" falsetto vocals, creating a niche without competition. After last year's stop gap EP Another World the second full length The Crying Light is a continuation and expansion of the string heavy semi-classical musings with high brow lyrics.

The cover depicts Japanese Butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno (to whom the album is dedicated) and once again Antony dons the costume of the outsider, lost a world that he doesn't quite understand, but worrying about it all the same. A bit overbearing at times, The Crying Light won't create such a stir as its predecessor, because now his audience knows more or less what to expect.

Antony and the Johnsons:
Antony Hegarty: vocals, keyoboards
Julia Kent: cello
Parker Kindred: drums
Jeff Langston: bass
Doug Wieselman: horns
Maxim Moston: violin, arrangements
Rob Moose: guitar, violin
