Brooklyn singer Jessie Kilguss started out as an actress, but sharing the stage with role-model Marianne Fatihfull opened her eyes. She could be singer too and her first album Exotic Bird saw the light of day in 2007 and the forthcoming follow-up Nocturnal is an album that show an artist who knows she has the ideas and the voice to shape her songs into something special.

Because of her acting background, she has a precise phrasing and in-depth knowledge about the do's and don'ts when writing lyrics. Tapping into musical history she goes from cabaret-styled pices to modern day beeps and blinks. With production team Super Buddha (Blondie, Rufus Wainright) in the director's chair Jessi Kilguss deserves to find herself on stage in sizeable venues with her band The Steves featuring Wayne Batchelor on bass, Rich Hinman on guitar, Rob Heath on drums and Dan Siegler on keyboards. File under: avant singer-songwriting.
