The new album Underhanded Romance by San Francisco Band Scissors For Lefty is a great record for those long summer evenings. Jumping on the highly popular Britpop wagon it is a cross between the Kinks' Village Green Preservation Society and Blur's Modern Life Is Rubbish. Especially during Mama Your Boys Will Find A Home singer Bryan Garza is trying really, really hard to sound like Ray Davies. He fails, but is a good effort.
It's a bit weird to hear an American band using vaudeville vignettes on keyboards, but Scissors For Lefty manage to expand beyond the UK blueprints. Your little sister will love this album.
