Ropeadope Guru Andy Hurwitz Interview

Ebong.org has a nice interview with Andy Hurwitz, the driving force behind Ropeadope Records, the independent that releases record by artists like The Duo, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Mike Gordon.

The big idea, the big dream is simply to keep doing what we're doing and actually, some day, be able to make some real money from it. I'm not talking mtv cribs or anything, but just enough to live comfortably here in Brooklyn, pay my bills on time, not have to worry about the rent check, and have some cash saved away for my kids. Family has that affect on you - up until I had kids it was all fun and games. It still is, but now I find myself wanting a little bit more, a little comfort zone. It's extremely difficult to survive as an independent label (that's why 9 out of 10 fail each year!). We've been doing it for 6 years and it's been a miracle, but still a struggle.
