John Cale: Metro interview

John Cale

John Cale in todays Metro.

Do you wish you and Lou Reed had been able to settle your differences?
We did what we did and that had to be it. You have to cut the cloth.
How bad was the conflict?
Bad enough to stop working together.
Do you think the clash of strong ideas was part of what made The Velvet Underground so special?
There was no clash of strong ideas between me and Lou in making the music. It was always personal. It was what happened outside the band that didn't gel with what happened inside.
Did the arguments ever become physical?
Ha ha. Well, if it had become physical you know who'd have won - me.
