On July 10, at a ceremony in Paris, the French Ministry of Culture decorated Patti Smith as a Commandeur in the Order of Arts and Letters. Commandeur is the highest rank of the Order, which is bestowed on eminent artists and writers who have contributed significantly to furthering the arts in France and throughout the world.
