Tony Valentino: "Vicki" video

Garage rocker Tony Valentino has posted a video for Vicki, oen the two new songs from his Dirty Water Revisited album: "Like many of his peers he was ripped off by his record label back in the day and by re-recording classics like Dirty Water (adopted as a sports anthem in Boston), Barracuda and Riot On The Sunset Strip he has claimed his court-side seat as a progenitor of proto-punk, and he is back in control of his artistic output".

Tony Valentino: Dirty Water Revisited

Tony Valentino

When Tony Valentino, the guitarist for LA based garage rock band The Standells, started working on revisited version of that band's classic Dirty Water album, he did not stop there. As a continuation of his signature six strings sound he added two new tracks to Dirty Water Revisited: the tongue-in-cheek raw I'm a Sexy Punk Rocker and the old school rocker Vicki.

Like many of his peers he was ripped off by his record label back in the day and by re-recording classics like Dirty Water (adopted as a sports anthem in Boston), Barracuda and Riot On The Sunset Strip he has claimed his court-side seat as a progenitor of proto-punk, and he is back in control of his artistic output. Singer Gary Kaluza nails it a frontman and bass player, but it is singer and drummer Duane Waider who will be voted MVP with his rollicking basic but damn catchy patterns.

Tony Valentino: I'm a Sexy Punk Rocker

Tony Valentino: I'm a Sexy Punk Rocker

Tony Valentino, the guitarist for LA based garage rock band The Standells, is working on revisited version of that band's classic Dirty Water album. After three songs from that album it was time for a change of pace. The raw new original I'm a Sexy Punk Rocker finds him tapping into the energy of the late '70s, with bass player Gary Kaluza stepping up to the mike for a snarling vocal performance. Valentino is quite pleased with how to the track came out: "People have been calling me The Godfather Of Punk for a long time now, because of how much my guitar sound influenced those early punks, in LA and all over the world. Writing and recording this song was my chance to prove it."

Tony Valentino: Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White

Tony Valentino, the guitarist for LA based garage rock band The Standells, has released Sometimes Good Guys Don't Wear White, as part of the new version of that band's classic Dirty Water album. Considered as a progenitor of punk, it became a working class fan favourite back then and although the energy is a bit more subdued on this revisit, he nailed the guitar part as if he has drunk from the fountain of youth. Duane Waider is on point with his snarling lead vocals and tight drums, with Gary Kaluza once again laying the groundwork on bass.

Tony Valentino: Dirty Water

Tony Valentino, the guitarist for LA based garage rock band The Standells, is doing a new version of that band's classic Dirty Water album. After releasing the the rollicking lead single Barracuda he feels confident enough to share the reimagined title, once again aided by Duane Waider on vocals and drums, and Gary Kaluza on bass.

The original is BIG in Boston, where it is in heavy rotation at home games by the Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox. The 2022 is quite alright, but it lacks a bit of the spark that was captured when The Standells were one of the progenitors of the catchy, poppy punk sound that made them a household name and a reference point since then.

Tony Valentino: Barracuda

Tony Valentino was the guitarist for LA based garage rock band The Standells, one of the progenitors of the catchy punk sound that became all the rage a few years later. Now he is back with a new band reimaginging the band's classic 1966 record Dirty Water. The title track was a huge hit and became an anthem for Boston based sports teams Boston Bruins and the Boston Red Sox. Two new tracks have been added to the original tracklisting, with the rollicking lead single Barracuda serving as taster. Duane Waider is on vocals and drums, and Gary Kaluza plays bass.
