Singer and guitarist Thurston Moore did a fine job with his take on The Velvet Underground's Temptation Inside Your Heart, allowing himself plenty of leeway with a prolonged instrumental part. Fingers crossed he will play it with his band at Oslo Hackney in London on September 13.

On July 14, 1971 Lou Reed, performed at the Scala Cinema in London. The day after that Iggy & the Stooges played up a storm at that same venue. Photographer Mick Rock was there for both nights and shot the pictures that would become iconic album covers. A blue plaque will be unveiled today to honor these events. Thurston Moore will be there to help out:

The Guardian has s short interview with noise guitarist Thurston Moore:
I was not a cool guy at school. I was always the tallest, skinniest kid. I was a nerd and a dork. The cool guys were into sports. I did geeky things like read books and look in the Captain Beefheart section of the record store. That’s how I got into playing music in New York, making friends with another geek who was hanging around the Velvet Underground bin in the record store.
Moore will be interviewed by Eva Prinz at the Louder Than Words Festival in Manchester on November `10.
John Cale will perform at Desert Daze Festival in Joshua Tree, CA (October 15-15).
A new Thurston Moore album, Rock n Roll Consciousness, will be released on April 28th. Lead single Smoke Of Dreams is rather subdued and melancholic - a far cry from the noise rock with Sonic Youth.
The album was recorded at the The Church studio's in London, with Deb Googe (My Bloody Valentine, Snowpony) on bass, James Sedwards (Nøught, Chrome Hoof) on guitar and Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth, Crucifucks) on drums.
Thurston Moore has released new standalone single. Cease Fire is a plea for gun control, something that the USA surely needs but never gets around to implement. A tugging noise rocker with a message that won't let go. The single is available as a free download from his website.

On this Record Store Day exclusive release, entitled The Only Way To Go Is Straight Through, Thurston and Loren fearlessly dive into a hot, dark pool and enter a world of surging sound and faint lights. They can’t see each other. They can only hear each others’ searing notes in the heat. But it is enough to take them through.
The material on The Only Way To Go Is Straight Through was compiled from two live recordings. Side A was captured at The Stone in Manhattan, where Moore and Connors performed on July 14, 2012 for the second annual Spy Music Festival (pictured above). The pair met up again on October 17, 2012 to headline Northern Spy’s CMJ showcase at Public Assembly in Brooklyn (pictured below), and that mesmerizing set became Side B of this record.
While this was not the first time that Thurston Moore and Loren Connors have performed together, a vinyl pressing of their improvised collaborations is unprecedented. A mere three thousand copies of this extraordinary LP will be available worldwide ONLY on Record Store Day (April 20, 2013). The music will not be available in any other format, on any other day, so we think it will be well worth braving the insanely long RSD lines to get your hands on a copy.
Thurston Moore releases his third solo album Demolished Thoughts on May 24 on Matador Records. The nine tracks were produced by Beck. The track Benediction serves as a free taste.
