Rowan Newby: Some Hippie You Turned Out to Be

Folk singer Rowan Newby makes a case for taking it easy on his new album Some Hippie You Turned Out to Be. He had his share of his disappointments - This Way to Tinseltown is a sad but hilarious song about trying to make it in the movies, but things got decidedly better once he decided that he won't no longer be a participant in life's rat race. Othingnay Attersmay sums that attitude up perfectly. He looks back on spending time with his dog, a Golden Retriever, nurturing that the false impression that this hairy companion was smarter than a cat.

Newby is quite content right now, celebrating his new found piece of mind and writing songs that are an invitation to not giving a fuck and savouring the things that make life worthwhile: taking a swim, staring at the sky, and the company of a loved one. And having a bunch of accomplished musicians to back you up does not hurt either.

Rowan Newby: This Way to Tinseltown

Rowan Newby tells a sad tale about trying to make in the movies on his new single This Way to Tinseltown in which the protagonist coughs up the money for headshots and such: "throw my resume on my grave". His psychedelic folk is augmented by a shot of country, courtesy of pedal steel player Sid Jerdan. It is a track from his new album Some Hippie You Turned Out to Be, due for release September 6.

Rowan Newby: Hurry Up and Wait

Rowan Newby makes a case for taking it easy on his new single Hurry Up and Wait, a mid-tempo psychedelic folk song with a hook that has earworm written all over it. No problem for being a bit sentimental, as long as a sense of humour is in place too, to have some kind of balance. It is a track from his new album Some Hippie You Turned Out to Be, due for release September 6.
