Nancy: English Leather

With his latest single, English Leather, Jamie Stephen Hall goes on a late night prowl, where evil might be lurking in the shadows, so it might be safer to enter that seedy bar after all and brace himself for a whiff of stale cigarette smoke and hostile looks from the regulars. It is the title track from the new album by his Nancy project, a slice of fiercely lo-fi glam rock stuff with - once again - a nod to the British music hall tradition.

English Leather is released via Republic Of Music/Blame Recordings Release date: October 28th.

Nancy: Would You Be My Judy

For Would You Be My Judy, the new latest single by his Nancy project Jamie Stephen Hall went back to the British music hall tradition. It is a rollicking cabaret tune, with a hint of jazz and surf, as if the Beach Boys and the Kinks joined forces an upbeat song about finding one's bearings. It will included on English Leather album, due for release on October 28.

Nancy, nom-de-plume of English musician Jamie Stephen Hall, may proclaim that he doesn't care for his chosen genre, but I Hate Rock And Roll - a tracks his forthcoming new album English Leather - is proof of the opposite. Fuzzy and lo-fi, it comes with quite a lot of the sound of the Ramones and the swagger of the New York Dolls. Music always has been his favourite way to blow off steam. As addictive as drugs, but safer in the long run.

Nancy: Pleasure Pen

English garage rock act Nancy embraces kinky sex his new single, Pleasure Pen, inspired by the infaeous Leopold von Sacher-Masoch novella Venus in Furs. He made it a dirty, distorted neo-psych blues exercise that will be too far out for mainstream appeal, but will be appreciated by fans of unpolished underground music.

Nancy: 7 Foot Tall Post-Suicidal Feel Good Blues

English garage rock act Nancy makes it personal on his new single, 7 Foot Tall Post-Suicidal Feel Good Blues. Wrapped in warped psych blues he deals with his mental health that got him close to ending his own life. It's dark, it's stark, but it's also goddamn catchy.

It is the title track from his first full-length. Recommended if you like Syd Barrett's solo stuff. The video was directed by Rik Burnell.

Nancy: Orange Yellow Orange

English garage rock act Nancy go slow and psychedelic on the new single Orange Yellow Orange, a throwback to both the Canterbury scene and early pastoral Pink Floyd. The underlying message is that taking things for granted is no longer an option. "I'll see on the other side", when all this lockdown stuff is over.

The new EP Happy Oddities will be released via B3SCI Records on August 7th.

English garage rock act Nancy have a soft spot for off-kilter rhythms when composing daneable, quirky garage songs about halfway demented funk and vaudeville. Call Me On Your Telephone is a joyous plea to an unnamed party to get in touch in order to party hard like there is no tomorrow, with this mashup of Ian Dury, Talking Heads, and Jona Lewie.
