Island: Feels Like Air

Naming your band to a piece of land in the middle of the sea and writing deathwish songs makes sense for young indie rock band from London craving for splendid isolation. The members of Island are struggling with all the shit of early adulthood, and while they ensure the listener that they still love their mums, an adequate replacement hasn't been found yet.

Their debut album Feels Like Air is filled with mid-tempo songs, driven by jangling guitar and rather excessive use of cymbals. It's all over the top. with highs and lows, but no middle ground during which they take a breath and face the problems at hand. All they want is to escape and while that's not a bad idea as such, it gets a bit tiresome after awhile. There only so much passion and pain that can be crammed into the lyrics. Still, misunderstood teenagers will love them.
