Gentle Brontosaurus: My Favorite Monster

photo: Paul Marcou

Indie-pop quintet Gentle Brontosaurus stuffed so many references into their new single My Favorite Monster that even seasoned music geeks will be hard-pressed to catch them all. After kicking off with a 80s synth the song is off to the heavens with power and psychedelic pop with folk-tinged harmonies. Yes, it is quite ambitious and the risk of the wheels coming off was quite high, but they kept a firm grip on the steering wheel to bring it home safely.

The poetic imagery of the lyrics is a pipe dream for English teachers who want to get even with an unruly class with a term paper from Hell. Suffice to say that it is a mesmerizing, dazzling track that puts high culture in the spotlights.

Gentle Brontosaurus:
Anneliese Valdes: bass, backing vocals
Scott Stetson: guitar
Huan-Hua Chye: lead vocals, guitar, keyboards
Nick Davies: lead vocals, keyboards, trumpet
Paul Marcou: drums, backing vocals

My Favorite Monster is a self-released single. Buy it from their website. It is a track from their forthcoming album Three Hares, which will be released on February 13, 2026.
