Paul Archer: Art

Northern-Irish painter and musician Paul Archer has been part of the creative scene in Belfast for 30 years, but one thing was still on his bucket list: a solo album. With the release of Art that gap in his resume is now filled and it leaves the listeners with just one question: why did he wait so long? Barebones alternative rock is his go-to genre (Heavy Soul, Fear Destroyer), with forays into Northern Soul (Write It From The Soul) and the mood of the third Velvet Underground album (Truth From Lies).

It takes some nerve to call one's solo debut Art, but Archer has every right to do so. He can paint with sound, adding washes of colour on top of his guitar textures by way of choice backing vocals or a lone tambourine. It has been a long time coming, but it should give him the confidence that there is an audience out there for him as a solo artist, who surely will want to hear more.

Paul Archer: vocals, guitars (all tracks)
Andy Hawkins: multi-instrumentalist, producer & mixer (1–6, 9, 13–14)
Gary Must: drums, keys & programming (2, 4–8, 13)
