British musician Steve Miles, resident genius of European Sun, released a sprawling single. School Report runs for 17 minutes, enabling him to relive the horrors of his schooldays, coping with internet connection hassles, germs in pillow cases, anger, taxes, broccolli, misogyny, headphones and a whole lot more. It is a spoken word piece that mixes elements of the Velvets' Sister Ray and The Gift.
Ian Button (drums), Rob Pursey (bass) and Elin Miles (additional vocals) helped him out to create this folk punk tale that gives a belated one-finger salute to the teachers who made his life miserable as a kid. Some scars never heal, but now he can wear them as badges of honour.
School Report is released via Skepwax (CD, digital). The CD version comes with a hand-signed school report, and is posted in a manilla envelope. Buyers of his forthcoming new LP When Britain Was Great, due for release on January 23, 2026, get it as a free bonus.
