The Chicago Immigrant Orchestra has been proving that music is an universal language since 1999. With members from all over the world bringing in their skills and instruments for their album Sanctuary, they created a tapestry of sounds, taking cues from their unique kind of folk music. It is all about connection and being pleasantly surprised by what each musician contributes, a meeting of East, West, South and North, and finding new ways to move forward.
The narrow-minded will hate it, but anyone who is serious about music and is willing to lend their ears to something that they are not familiar with will find plenty of nuggets that they did not know they would like. This album is a gateway drug to what is stupidly referred to with the catch all term "world music". This is music full stop.
Sanctuary is a self-released album. Buy it from their website.
