Neo-psych trio Acapulco Lips have studied surf and 60s girl pop religiously to make it sound fresh and new on their Now album. They added a bit of the grit of The 13th Floor Elevators to their dreamy melodies, throwing in gnarly licks to give Maria-Elena Juarez's chrystal clear vocals somtehing to bounce of off.
Recorded all analog in the Georgetown studio of their label, they created a warm and fuzzy sound that brings back the heyday of the Byrds and the Jefferson Airplane, had those bands been fronted by a singer who took her phrasing from French Yé-yé pop vocalists.
Acapulco Lips:
Jordan T Adams: drums, percussion
Christopher Garland: guitar, vocals
Maria-Elena Juarez: bass, vocals
Now is released via Killroom Records (vinyl, digital).
