About six years ago Canadian folk musician and record producer Jake Nicoll started working on a concept album, Saturn Returns, loosely based on the astrological idea of entering adulthood after one's hits 30. He has been recording in fits and starts since then, mostly when he hit a wall during the sessions for the other albums he made (Pool House and Lonely Mission).
He finally finished it this year and the single Free Space serves as first taste. It is a soft-spoken song about trying to get some piece of mind, with Pamela Mackenzie helping him out with a luscious counter-melody. The video was made by Shan Pomeroy.
Free Space is released via Tiny Room Records. The Saturn Returns album is available for pre-order here (vinyl, digital). Release date: August 1.
