Charlottesville songwriter Robert Sawrey is the sole constant member of Hadnot Creek, an outlet for his old school alt-country storytelling songs, backed by a rotating cast of musicians. For his new album Leaving he looked at some of musical heroes - Sparklehorse, Lucinda Williams, The Mountain Goats - as he tries to come to grips with a fast changing world that both baffles and scares him.
He is like the grizzled uncle at a party, trying to fit in and strike up a conversation with anyone who is willing to listen. It turns out that he has plenty to share, having had his fair share of good times and bad. Wrapped in mid-tempo country rock, Leaving is an album that can serve as a reality check for those who haven't been confronted with bad patches, accidents, and death.
