Dutch dreamy shoegaze quintet Habitants are a band searching for the meaning of life. Founded by René Rutten (The Gathering) they created a blend of orchestrated dark wave and alternative rock, a maze of textures and crystal clear guitars on top of a trippy rock back beat. It appeal to fans who can handle progressive twists and turns, with singer Anne van den Hoogen acting as a guide/chief soul searcher.
It is all done with very good taste, but the squeaky clean production has ironed out all the rough edges, that must have been present at first. The live shows will surely have more bite and risk taking.
