wh^rl: wh^rl

Jurgen Veenstra has been part of the Dutch underground for decades, playing in more bands (Avery Plains, MOAN, Moonlizards)than he cares to remember, but going out on his own was not part of the equation. The pandemic happened and he found himself stuck at home and left on own his devices - including a 4 track Tascam. He put the latter to good use, capturing a wealth of intricate lo-fi songs, some of them far complex than is usual in this barebones setup.

Fast forward to 2023 and enter the brothers Arno and Stefan Breuer, two musicians who have been following Veenstra's career closely. They added extra layers of sound, being careful not to get in the way of the core of Veenstra's initial recordings. This resulted in a collection of songs that cover post-rock, folk, slowcore and percolating indie. The project was named wh^rl, which is quite apt, because it is the kind of music that will have the listener running around in circles, trying to keep up what is happening. It is creates a buzz that is quite addictive, without any nasty after effects, except for a craving to push play or drop the needle once again.

wh^rl is released via Tiny Room Records (2LP, CD, digital).
