It takes a lot of nerve to tackle classic songs like Green River and Summertime that have been covered ad infinitum. Alt-country singer Eilen Jewell has the voice to transform them into heartfelt Americana tunes. Melancholy and happiness are playing catch. Her longtime band members Jerry Miller (guitar), Shawn Supra (upright bass) and Jason Beek (drums) provide a warm blanket of swing and swagger, throwing in sparkling trinkets of choice notes to let their vocalist shine even more.
