Author Walter Holland will discuss his book about the Phish album A Live One with Mike Hama at the City Winery in NYC on January 19th, Holland's book is an in-depth study of the band's first official live album, tracing the band's musical influences an dissecting the build-ups of their jams. Some knowledge about musical theory is a must to appreciate it properly.
Blank Space and City Winery are proud to present a reading and book signing by author Wally Holland on his recently released book about Phish’s quintessential live album "A Live One" for Bloomsbury’s “33 ⅓” series.
(...) Artist Mike Hamad’s “Setlist Schematics” changed the way fans visualize the band’s musical improvisations. Pairing this new visual language with Wally and Jake’s conversations will allow for a new understanding of Phish’s musical achievements. This panel of moderators has over 20 years of touring with Phish behind them as well as extensive schooling on music theory, giving the audience an incredibly unique point of view on one of their greatest collection of live recordings.
The tracks for A Live One were recorded in 1994, with the lengthy Tweezer (November 2, 1994, Bangor Auditorium, Bangor, ME) as the stand-our track. The book is published by Bloomsbury’s “33 ⅓” series.
Phish takes over NYC's Madison Square Garden for a four-night New Year’s Run (12-30/01-02), before heading South to Mexico for three nights at Barceló Maya Beach (01/15-17). All shows are sold out.
