David Wright: Music From The International Airport Hotel Lounge + Blue Beach Boardwalk

Jazz guitarist David Wright has a varied palette of styles. His latest two albums Music From The International Airport Hotel Lounge and Blue Beach Boardwalk cater to the new jazz lovers and latin infused mainstream respectively. As a composer, he knows how to hold back and gives his fellow musicians ample opportunity to contribute. He is always in charge though.

Music From The International Airport Hotel Lounge
With a title like that you'd expect muzak you can ignore - just a bunch of tunes that can piped through sound system while businessmen stare at their smartphones. Wright proofs that he is a keen observer, with tongue-in-cheek titles that capture the inevitable ennui and boredom that are the main ingredients of being to forced to wait in a highly impersonal environment.

The tracks may provide some solace, but by inserting smart rhythm shifts you are forced to actually listen. This album might make that lounge bearable. Find out where sanctioned corporate crap is coming from and replace it with this album.

Blue Beach Boardwalk
The keyword for this album latin, with bossa nova riding shotgun. He gets close to the mainstream, but he gets of the highway to sample the goods on offer in smalltowns and sleepy cities.

The piano leads the way mostly, but by using three different players (Pat Felitti, Gianluca Grasso and James Pollard) the mood is varied, with each musician adding his own personal touch. A summer record that reveals itself more after each listen.
