Dawn Landes: Fireproof

Dawn Landes

Singer/songwriter Dawn Landes is best described as a mash-up of Heather Nova and Suzanne Vega. She toured with the latter in Europe. Picking up studio tricks as a recording engineer, she fell in with the folk scene in NYC. She worked with Ryan Adams and Philip Glass and, inspired by her day job, began recording her own songs during after hours in the studio.

Fireproof is her sophomore album, which she hard start again form scratch after burglars took off with her laptop that contained her songs. It was recorded in an old fire-station in Red Hook, Brooklyn. File under big city indie-folk with a more prominent role for keyboards than usual. Including an self explanatory instrumental called Toy Piano proofs that there are such things as humour and bravado in all too self-conscious genre.
