Barn Burning: Werner Ghost Truck

Werner Ghost Truck is one of those rare albums that make a lasting impression after listening to it just once. It is the second full length album by Barn Burning, a quartet from Providence, RI. Recorded in an empty house during the winter the band came up sounds like early REM, Neil Young in a desolate acoustic mood and 16 Horsepower. This is not a feelgood album. This is an album about loneliness with sparse instrumentation andmagnificent lyrics. How many American bands can write a song about Julius Caesar and get way with it?

Barn Burning deserves a prominent place in your Americana collection. The tracks flow together as one long song, not stopping for a breather between tracks. You can almost picture the band recording in the Long Dark Room. It's freezing cold outside and it feels like winter will never end. The radio switches between stations all by itself, emitting the odd static here and there, sometimes drowning out the performers. Better listen to it again. And again.

Barn Burning:
Anthony Loffredio: vocals, acoustic/electric guitars, harmonica
James Toomey: drums, percussion, toy instruments
James Merida: bass, keyboard, vocals
Kate Conroy: violin, vocals
