Alien Chicks: Toys Taken At Birth

photo: CJ Kerr

London-based progressive power-punk trio Alien Chicks will probably fail every drug test, given the amount of energy and anger they crammed into their Toys Taken At Birth EP. They take a swing at right-wings nutjobs (Madmen), nearly lose it during a walk down in the street being overwhelmed by all the slogans and ads they see along the way (>Now I'm Big) and deconstruct Missy Elliot's Get Ur Freak On and turn into a slamdance anthem.

It all comes to a peak during the hectic 5/4, a clash between hardcore and - wait for it - Teddy Bears' Picnic, a classic two-step that has become a perennial children's classic. That is what this band is all about: going through anything that tickles their fancy, throw it in a blender with some extra spices to create a whirlwind of music.
