If only word could be used for the music by English indie pop band The Would-Be-Goods it would be precise. Singer and band leader Jessica Griffin's vocal delivery could be used during the courses for anyone who dream of making it on air for the BBC. Founded in 1987 the band went through many personel changes, but their vision never changed: to create subtle pastoral and emotional songs about matters of the heart.
Their new single Dr Love swings softly with quiet elegance, but the lyrics tell another story. The good doctor is most likely a drug dealer who can take away the pain of heartbreak for a bit by supplying something illegal, but it comes at a price, leaving his patients lost in a daze that clears away slowly, only to reveal that nothing has changed.
The Would-Be-Goods:
Jessica Griffin: guitar, vocals
Peter Momtchiloff: guitar (Heavenly, Talulah Gosh)
Debbie Greensmith: drums (Thee Headcoatees)
Andy Warren: bass (The Monochrome Set, Adam and the Ants)
Dr Love is released via Skep Wax, Their new album Tears Before Bedtime will be availabel on February 13 (vinyl, CD, digital). It is available for preorder here.
