French music producer and saxophone player Thylacine, nom-de-plume of William Rezé, has travelled extensively, using his impressions to create (danceable) soundscapes in his by mixing field recordings and contributions from musicians he met on his journey aboard his 1972 Airstream caravan, which he has converted into a mobile studio.
Roads Vol.3 is the result of a three-months journey through Namibia. Some of it is really upbeat - the use of rhythm , synths and jazzy saxophone in Dokido is unresistable, while the soft patterns Damara and Kolman are entrancing. He went all out for Shark Island, wherein a full choir turns a piano-driven track into an orchestral, almost hymnal excersise.
This is an album that works best with decent headphones. Maybe he should give Steven Wilson a call, asking for a quote for an ATMOs version. The 3D-effect is already there with good old stereo, it really puts the listener in Rezé's caravan, fiddling with his controls to create caleidoscope of sound.
