Octoberman: Chutes

Canadian folk rock collective Octoberman have been at for 20 years, released a slew of well-received albums and EPsChutes. Core members Singer-songwriter Marc Morrissette, Tavo Diez de Bonilla (bass) and Marshall Bureau (drums) have welcomed guest musicians over the years, but their modus operandi hasn't changed all that much. Morrissette brings in a fresh stack of introspective story-telling songs that get worked on in the studio to turn them into gentle swinging full-band excursions.

Aging is main the subject, some of it autobiographical and others written from a third-party perspective. They recorded it old school, live-off-the-floor on two-inch tape at Little Bullhorn Studio in Ottawa, which gives the songs a nice analog sheen. Musicians facing each other and reacting on the spot works wonders for the spontaneity, creating a connection that can never be achieved with each one of them tinkering separately in their own space.
